Bush - Merkel neck massage sexual harrassment?

Spiegel Online asks here: "Angela Merkel was the unwilling recipient of a quickie neck massage at the hands of President George W. Bush. Was it sexual harrassment?" Whats your take on this one?

Sexual harrassment? Whether one takes a question with a light touch or brushes it away with a shrug, is immaterial. How Ms Merkel interprets it is entirely up to her. I would expect that anyone attending a G8 would be above a cowboy behaviour which Mr Bush so generously displayed. Poor man, he just cannot get it through his head that not all the world is wallowing in his Texas- ranch style camaraderie. Ms Merkel, forgive him, for he knows no better.

  2. He may not know any better, but this man represents the United States of America for pete’s sake! I raised four children in a very political life, and not one of them would have offered anything but a handshake to an office holder in either party, nor would they now as adults. So, did Bush’s parents not instill this level of courtesy in their son? I’d say they did - he just wants to be the buffoon, the only one in the room who is “relaxed”, the Texas ranch holder. I have an extended family in Texas, and none of them would ever behave in this way to a woman who was not very closely related and was expecting it; and even then, never in a public setting.

I see no examples of this behavior in his circles, in the State of Texas as I know it, nor in any gentleman!

I’m sure, even though he’s now been told again (and again), that he to this minute sees no harm in his actions.

I like to tell him he’s a boor, but he’d most likely answer me that he wasn’t boring Ms. Merkel.
